UCB: Research Assistant - Global Chemistry

About the role: The scientist would provide core support in physical and analytical chemistry to characterise New Chemical Entities (NCE’s) from the Medicinal Chemistry group and will be utilising automation and analytical instrumentation.
Who you'll work with: Medicinal Chemists, Biologists, Pharmacology and DMPK groups.
What you'll do:
- Measurements of fundamental physical-chemical properties including lipophilicity, solubility, permeability, and pKa and provide detailed data analysis to Medicinal Chemists, Biologists, Pharmacology and DMPK groups.
- Plan and implement in vitro physical chemical assays independently and effectively, under the guidance of the team leader.
- Solid state characterization experience is desirable.
- Microsoft Excel proficiency and data curation.
- Actively seek to understand project-wide issues and proactively contribute ideas and solutions to colleagues across disciplines.
- Develop and expand knowledge of your area of physical and analytical chemistry through appropriate reading and attendance at courses and external meetings. Remain up to date with the latest developments and trends in your field.
- Proactively inform colleagues of these advances through discussion, reports or presentations.

For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills: The required candidate should have a strong scientific background, good written and verbal communication skills and be highly self-motivated with a proven ability to multi-task effectively and adapt to meet the demands of a fast-paced environment.
- A minimum of BSc (or equivalent) Chemistry
- Relevant technical experience/knowledge of analytical techniques such as LC/MS, UV spectroscopy.
- It would be an advantage to be familiar with assay automation using Hamilton liquid handling instrumentation or similar platforms.
- It would also be beneficial to be proficient in the utilisation and maintenance of LC/MS instruments in particular Agilent and Waters instrumentation and in the use of Microsoft Excel.
