Registration is now closed.

Introduction

The Physchem Forum Committee are pleased to announce our seventh Physical Chemistry Symposium to be held at AstraZeneca, Alderley Park, Cheshire, UK on Wednesday 30th September 2009.

Lectures

The programme will comprise a mixture of presentations and posters with ample opportunity dedicated to questions.

Posters

All posters are welcome but presentations are reserved for non-commercial work.

A prize, kindly sponsored by Sirius Analytical will be awarded to the best poster as decided by the committee.

  • The poster prize was won by Lee Hyde and Salvador Tomas of the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, Birkbeck College, University of London for their poster titled 'A Versatile HPLC Methodology for the Measurement of Drug-Membrane Interactions'.

Symposium Welcome Dinner

We shall be holding a 'Welcome Dinner', including a key-note presentation by Professor David E Leahy (Molecular Informatics Group, University of Newcastle) at the Stanneylands Hotel, Wilmslow, on the 29th of September (the evening before the symposium).

Fifty rooms have been reserved at the Stannelylands for delegates. If you wish for a room to be allocated to you please advise us of this on registration, a booking will then be made on your behalf.

19.00 - 19.45

From Hammett to the Semantic Web. Evolution of Predictive Methods
Professor David Leahy, Molecular Informatics Group, University of Newcastle

Physical Organic Chemistry works well when experiment and prediction are tightly coupled and methods for predicting the properties of molecules from chemical structure have changed significantly over the last 30 years. The talk presents current research interests in prediction, exploiting modern information systems compared to classical approaches.
